The cleanup has begun. A total of 5 trees fell according to a park official. There are many hanging branches and limbs that need to be cleared. The roses and wild flowers survived the storm. The community gathered and spoke with each other and reconnected after the storm passed. It takes a community. I love Tompkins Square Park. It is an inspiration to me.

This is good news. I love the park, too, and have been worried about the trees. I’m glad there wasn’t too much damage.

Sad to see five trees fell, but it could’ve been a lot worse. I’m glad Irene is gone! Nice photo and reporting, Melanie!

Thanks Goggla and Marty. I love the trees too and was sad to see the storm’s damage. The park workers in Tompkins had the debris cleared in a very short amount of time. I was amazed. They love the park too. It was nice seeing everyone and catching up!!It’s a beautiful day!!Enjoy.

@Goggla–someone told me they saw a hawk close to Ave. D near the river. Don’t know for sure if it is the TSP hawk or not. Any one out there know or have any other info. we would love to hear from you.
